Troubleshooting Dipping Problems

It takes time to become a master dipper, and understanding wax temperature is probably the most crucial factor in the process. Shaping the candles and avoiding surface blemishes are also difficult. Following are a few tips for diagnosing troublex.

While Dipping

• If the candle appears to melt, the wax is too hot, or you are lingering too long in the hot wax.

• If the wax is thick and lumpy, the temperature is too cool.

• If your candle is not growing with each successive dip, the wax is too hot, or you are lingering too long in the hot wax.

• If the candle surface is blistering, the wax is too hot, or you are lingering too long in the hot wax.

• Because the wax shrinks as it cools, successive dips should be of relatively close temperatures and the candle must be cool but not cold when you redip it.
